Test Tube Racks

Test tube racks are popular laboratory accessories  for storing and organising test tubes.  These are racks with slots designed to securely hold and store test tubes in an upright position or at an appropriate angle, depending on the purpose and the needs of the experiment. At EPRO, we have prepared a wide range of test tube racks in many variants reflecting their multiple applications. Have a look at our product portfolio.

The role of test tube racks in the laboratory

Firstly,  organisation and order : racks allow  test tubes to be stored in an orderly manner for easy identification and access, and prevent tubes from being accidentally knocked over.

Secondly,  stability : racks provide a stable platform for holding tubes, which reduces the risk of tipping over and cross-contamination of the tube material. The stability of tubes placed in racks makes the  pipetting of various substances into specific test tubes more convenient. Moreover, if you use racks to secure cell culture tubes in a fixed position, you keep them static, which has a positive effect on the outcome of your experiment.

Thirdly,  efficiency:  with test tube racks, you can easily identify the samples you need, speeding up laboratory processes and making your work more efficient.

Types of test tube racks

As we mentioned above, at EPRO you will find a wide selection of different  test tube racks . They can be divided into several main groups.

Racks can be categorised according to the number of tubes they can hold: they can have from a few to a dozen or so slots for your valuable samples. The number of slots depends on the size of the rack and the size of the tube to be stored in it.

At EPRO, we offer  versatile racks suitable for several types of test tubes. We also have  multifunctional or modular racks available . They come with slots of several sizes located, for example, on the sides; such a rack can be arranged in a desired configuration to accommodate laboratory containers we are currently using.

Racks can also be divided according to the  shape of test tubes . These can include the versatile racks mentioned above. They can accommodate test tubes of various shapes and capacities, such as  Eppendorf tubes Falcon tubes PCR tubes  or MCT tubes, i.e  centrifuge tubes , reaction tubes, culture tubes, as well as other tubes of various capacities.

Finally, racks can be categorised into classic , versatile racks – accommodating different types of test tubes, and the previously mentioned  modular racks which can be further customised.  Rotating racks with different sized slots on both sides of the walls.  Foldable racks which can save precious laboratory space when are not in use. Additionally, we offer  cryo racks that are  freeze-proof , allowing test tubes to be stored at low temperatures without fear of damaging samples.

Main functions and applications of test tube racks

Sample storage:  test tube racks allow samples to be stored in the correct position and temperature, for easy organisation and identification of samples, which reduces the risk of sample contamination or damage.

Carrying out chemical reactions: test tube racks can be used to hold samples in a stable position when carrying out chemical reactions or mixing substances.

Performing biological processes:  test tube racks are used in biological processes , enabling test tubes containing cultures of microorganisms to be organised and secured.

Best materials for test tube racks

Test tube racks can be made of a variety of materials . However, it is important that it is a durable material and resistant to laboratory conditions. The material should be easy to clean and durable so that it can be used for many amazing studies and thus reducing amount of waste polluting the environment.

There are several basic materials used in the manufacture of test tube racks:

  • Aluminium : racks made of aluminium are lightweight, durable and corrosion-resistant. They are used in various laboratories due to their durability and ease of cleaning.
  • Stainless steel : stainless steel racks are more durable, corrosion-resistant and easy to clean. They are often used in laboratories with higher risk of contact with chemicals.
  • Plastic : racks made of plastic, such as polystyrene or polypropylene, are an economical option. The racks are lightweight, easy to clean and can be used in many types of laboratories.

How to select the best test tube rack?

Selecting the right rack should be well thought out. It is worth considering several aspects that will help us choose the product suitable for our needs.

  • Number of test tubes: it is advisable to choose a rack that will accommodate the appropriate number of test tubes, taking into account the specific needs of the laboratory:
  • Quality: it is important that the rack is made of material that makes it durable and sturdy.
  • Price: at EPRO, you can choose between various price options, according to the product quality and functionality.

Test tube racks are extremely important in laboratories , enabling storage, organisation, and efficient sample handling in a controlled and safe manner.  There are many types of racks to choose from, depending on the number of tubes, shape, type of base and material of construction.

Choosing the right test tube rack is crucial for efficient and effective laboratory work. At EPRO, we are committed to making your lab work efficient at every stage of your research.  Therefore, when selecting products for our portfolio, we pay attention to every detail . We will be happy to help you choose the right rack and answer all your questions. Have a look at our range of racks and do not hesitate to contact us.
